What material will the finished product (casting) be made of?
Will there be more than one material used for the finished product?
How many casts will the mold have to produce?
What type of finish will the product have?
What library life is planned for the mold?
What type of accuracy (tolerance) does the mold require?
Is the weight of the mold important?
Does the finished product need to come out of the mold in one piece, or can it be assembled after casting?
When should the mold be completed?

All of these considerations, and more, come into play when deciding how the mold will be made and what materials will be used. Many times the final design is cost driven.
